via Daily Prompt: Measure

Ah! …To have one’s name soar across media, movie or TV screens! Everyone re-tweeting or sharing one’s every photo and/or thoughts! One’s bank accounts opening elite doors with advertisers positioning themselves to score this one’s contract signature to endorse products galore!

And you are only ten! . . . Or four. . . Or even two!

Wait a minute! . . . What can these ones really teach us to do?

Is money what makes a ‘role-model”? . . . Anyone financially successful?

And then, why is it that many choose not to be called ‘role-models’ after reaching celebrity status?

Suddenly, these plead: “Don’t follow me!”

Does being a celebrity relieve one of the responsibility of demonstrating and maintaining values?

These are just questions that we all should really ask of ourselves. No one individual is responsible for our actions. Who we personally choose as ‘role-models’ is based upon how we want to live our lives. And how we want to live our lives should be based upon solid principles, shouldn’t it?

However, our young people look to athletes, millionaires, musicians, other entrepreneurs or anyone gaining fame and fortune, traversing media heaven as stars escaping black holes of invisibility because of wanting to be seen/accepted themselves. And since their peers idolize these ones, so do they.

But if we want our young ones to hold in esteem parents, teachers, or others leading the way in community service, should we not elevate these positions ourselves?

What are our conversations about on the home front? Do we speak negatively on many subjects causing our children to be resentful beings?

Or do we teach them to value people, the environment, morals?

Do we instill in them good ‘qualities’ like honesty and loyalty to guide them or do we leave them to the ‘spirit of the world’ which abuses and isolates them?

Do we want our children to be “tossed about as by waves and carried here and there by every wind of teaching by means of the trickery of men, by means of cunning in deceptive schemes”? Ephesians 4:14.

Actually, shouldn’t we all be striving to attain “the measure of stature that belongs to the fullness of the Christ”? Ephesians 4:13. . . Recognizing the need to grow in faith and knowledge based upon the following promise:

“This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” John 17:3.

Is there any better ‘role-model” than he?

“Christ . . . [left] a model for you to follow his steps closely.” 1 Peter 2:21.
